Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
From our Senior Pastor There is a need, a calling, an urging to find a place where the grip of life is released and the embrace of the Divine is felt. The sounds, demands, and pressure of our journey disappear as our spirit exhales and discovers what is true. As we exhale, what we perceive as important is suddenly cleared off our mental desk. This task, while important, is difficult to accomplish. We worship in a hurry and offer sacrifices upon the altar of busy-ness. Our prayers are strange contradictions. We desire peace, yet we are addicted to chaos. How do we find our center? Where do we go to find our rest? These are questions I ask myself when the pace of life threatens to obscure my vision of God. Meetings, speeches, sermons, visits, agendas, budgets, banks, funerals, weddings, staffing, deadlines, and the list goes on. We are all vulnerable to being swept away by the current of hurry and confusing our addiction to hurry with our adoration of the Holy. It is Jesus who demonstrates, time and time again, the need to slow down, sit in silence and break away from the agenda of ministry to reconnect with our Father. Prayer We seek to slow our pace, sit in silence and hear from You, O God. Give us the courage to say “No” to the next project and “Yes” to time well spent with You. Amen. |
