Isaiah 55:8

For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.

Thoughts lead to feelings, feelings lead to actions, and actions lead to results. In psychological literature, this is often depicted as a circular, connected pattern. A circle of empowering thoughts leads to and connects with empowering actions, feelings, and empowering results. A circle of disempowering thoughts leads to and connects to disempowering actions, disempowering feelings, and of course, disempowering results.

Lil old me, I am only a custodian; I’m just a teacher (or insert any profession you wish); I am divorced; I am bankrupt; I am unworthy; My home is in foreclosure; I am still single and without a partner to share my life with. Holding on to these thoughts are far from empowering. If we dwell in these disempowering thoughts, then the results that we see are disempowering.

God says in this text that God’s thoughts are higher than our thoughts, and his ways are higher than our ways. How empowering is that? As we focus on the empowering thoughts, particularly God’s thoughts as shared through Bible Study, Prayer, Fellowship and communion with others who are devoted to Jesus Christ, we begin to see what a difference such empowering thoughts can make in our life. We have more of God’s joy, God’s peace, God’s courage, God’s love, and God’s wisdom in our lives.

Whatever our thoughts are, they compel us to whatever the results may be. If we think we are less than, then our results show that we are less than. If we think we are the next leaders in our community, then we feel like the next leaders in our community, we act like the next leaders and we become the next leaders. If we think we got next, we feel like ‘we got next’, we act like ‘we got next’ and we have results that are evidence that we really do ‘have next.’ Let us make a choice to change our thoughts such that they are empowering to us and the next generation. We can’t afford not to!

Prayer 

God, help me to think Your thoughts and to follow UYour ways such that I might have results that are pleasing in Your sight. Help me to think empowering thoughts such that I might have empowering results.
