Deacon Victor Parrott

Psalm 88:1-2 (NRSV)

1O LORD, God of my salvation, when, at night, I cry out in your presence, 2let my prayer come before you; incline your ear to my cry.

Lord, You Know!

We sometimes find ourselves awake late in the midnight hour when the entire world seems to be at rest. So, there we are in the utter stillness, the sheer quietness, the incredible solitude and the engulfing darkness of the early morning hours. It is a time to ponder our accomplishments and failings, joys and sorrows, strengths and weaknesses, and our possibilities and lost opportunities. It can be a fearful time; a time when we are face to face with who we “really” are. But it can also be a time to be comforted by God’s love and assured by God’s presence.

Even as we wrestle with the reality of having more questions than answers, and our souls cry out to God, God is with us. And God knows what it is that we are feeling. Like a best friend and confidant, He provides a ministry of presence as we navigate our way through the maze of emotions, attempting to make sense of this experience called life. Often, when it’s all said and done, the best that we can do is say, “I don’t know, but Lord, you know!”

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the blessing of Your presence and Your willingness to hear us. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Thought for the day

God will meet you late in the midnight hour.
