But . . . But mom! But dad! But it wasn’t my fault! But I really need it! But I have to have it! These are often cries heard from children and adults alike. People seem to have a standard propensity to deflect any of their wrong-doing. Likewise, every desire denied is like a life threatening emergency. It would be so refreshing if when we uttered ‘but’ it would be followed by, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matt. 6:33) This scripture is clear and exact. Strive after our Lord and Savior and all the rest will follow. Put God first and the balance will come along as God directs our lives. Let us not focus on the stuff, but keep hearts, minds and eyes on Jesus. Surely, He won’t lead us astray! Prayer God, Your name is above all names. Your word is mighty. Your love is endless and undeniable. Thank You for Your grace and mercy. This is our prayer and our most humble supplication. Amen. Thought for the day But if God isn’t first, nothing else will matter. |
