Matthew 18:3

And He said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of heaven.”

Man in the Mirror

Recording artist George Benson wrote a song called “Everything Must Change.” In that recording, Mr. Benson states that everything must change, that nothing and no one goes unchanged. This is true because change is always happening at some point in our lives and around us. Some people decide to make a change; change in where they live; change in how they live; change in how they look. However, if you are moving because you want to get away from hurt or pain consider that moving only changes the scenery and not what is on the inside of you. If for some reason your relationships, friendships or marriage is not going the way you would like it, you may find fault in the other person and that they need to make a change. However, forcing your will upon others in your friendships, relationships and your marriage could make life more difficult to deal with. We may come to the understanding that we cannot control the actions of others but, we can control ourselves, if we want too.

Have you looked at the man or woman in the mirror? Are you living the life that God has destined you for? Are you treating others the way you want to be treated? If not, the change must start in you.

Jesus was saying in Matt. 18:3 that as adults we should have the characteristics of children, and for those who have those attributes the Kingdom awaits. Children are usually humble, free from sin, and they make amends easily because they are not set in their ways like adults. If only we could just stay young, go out and play, but life is not like that. Until we can get rid of the old circumstances, leave the past in the past, and ask God for his help, you will continue in the cycle that you are in. It’s ok to make changes because change can be a good thing but, keep seeking to strengthen your relationship with God, while you are going through your changes. He will not let you down.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, please allow me to overcome the circumstances in my life that I cannot change, help me to change the things that I can and to accept the things I cannot. Amen.

Thought for the day

Before you go around blaming others and forcing your will upon others, examine yourself. You may find that the answers to your discontentment are in your lack of acknowledgement that change must first begin in you.
