Luke 1:47-55

Unexpected Blessings

I can remember coming home from school one day, finding my father had bought me a brand new bicycle. I was so excited I jumped and yelled for several minutes. My father knew how much I wanted a bike and he knew how happy I would be if he gave it to me. I wanted to ride it right away, but I didn’t know how, so I had to wait for training wheels. Once Daddy got them, he took me out for a short ride. I thought I was in heaven, nothing could have compared to the unexpected gift from my father.

There are times in life when you receive an unexpected blessing. It could be something that you have prayed for, or just a blessing from God because he knew you needed it. God loves us so much that he never stops surprising us and providing for us. God has a plan for each of our lives and he will unexpectedly orchestrate the paths of our lives, according to his will.

This is what God did for Mary, He implanted Baby Jesus in her womb; He Who would save the world. Mary was the expected receiver of the greatest gift that God could give, the gift of carrying the Messiah. Mary, who thought she was not worthy of such a blessing; Mary, an ordinary woman, becomes the most important women in biblical history. God gave to us the unexpected gift of the Messiah, who would save the world.

Prayer

Lord, help us to remember that you are the good and perfect giver and that you will supply all our needs.

Thought for the day

Praise God for every blessing, those expected as well the unexpected.
