1As he walked along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that God’s works might be revealed in him” Unsolicited and Undeserved It’s probably safe to say that some of us, at one time or another, have received free samples of a company’s products. Perhaps they were given to us on the street, or they arrived in our mailboxes. Whatever the case, these freebies are usually unearned and unsolicited. Generally, these samples are meant to induce us to purchase the products, which can be coffee, laundry detergent, shampoo, chewing gum, food, etc. If we want the samples, we use them. If they are unwanted, we give them away or discard them. However, what happens when something unsolicited, undeserved, and unwanted lands on our doorsteps, and we don’t have the foregoing options? This is generally the case with the hardships of life, which are often unsolicited, undeserved, and unwanted. What happens when we are impacted by death, disease, accidents, divorce, unemployment, or some other calamity? We don’t want it, but we can’t give it away, nor can we throw it away. What then?
Prayer Almighty God, we ask that You would grant us the peace which passes all understanding, even in the midst of calamities and turmoil. Amen. Thought for the Day
