But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Triage for Life For most of my nursing career I worked in emergency rooms. The main purpose of an emergency room is to treat life threatening conditions (heart attacks, bleeding, injuries, respiratory distress, delivery of newborns, etc.). The most important skill that emergency health care providers possess is the ability to look at patients and triage them correctly. Triage is assessing patients and assigning them to the correct level of care in a timely manner. Life threatening conditions are treated immediately whereas those that are less serious can wait to be treated. Today’s scripture reminds us that Christ has a priority order for us. He instructs us to first seek Him and His righteousness in our lives and everything else will be added. As we seek Christ, we learn that it is not us or our plans but His will and His way. Our relationship with Him grows and we feel a kinship – as His child. We begin to take on His nature – loving others as He loves us. In emergency rooms, when patients are triaged correctly and have received appropriate care, they have a better outcome. The same holds true for our lives. When we seek Christ first, we are focused on His will for us and live happier and more productive lives. Prayer Dear Lord, How do I seek thee? How do I make thee first in my life? “More of Me and less of you is all I ask, dear child.” Thought for the day First mean first. First in thought, words and actions. |
