Luke 19:28-40

Anticipation

One of the most exciting days of the year, particularly for school-aged children, is December 24th. It is the day in which we finish wrapping the gifts we’re giving and anxiously await the one’s we’re receiving. On the next day, we find that the build up from the day before is met with the joyful reality of the present day. We frantically rip open packages with excitement and appreciation.

This feeling of excitement was probably shared by the followers of Jesus in Luke 19: 28-40 as he rode along the road that led to the Mount of Olives. They praised him with excitement because of who he was and appreciated with gratitude for all he had done. There are many things that invoke excitement: a new car, a new job, a new relationship, etc. Yet the Lord desires to be the center of our excitement and the object of what we anticipate each new day.

Prayer

Dear Lord, help us to approach each day with joyful anticipation of what you will do for those who trust in you.

Thought for the day

Beginning each day in prayer with the Lord sets the right tone for the rest of the day.
